JRC Consulting Engineers Ltd is a South West Engineering Consultancy, based in Exeter, Devon, formed from a desire to provide bespoke, pragmatic and trusted design solutions, and advice to both the domestic and commercial sectors. Operating as a modern Consultancy, our experienced team are able to respond more quickly and efficiently to our Clients needs. Clients will speak directly with the Engineering Professional engaged with the project from the outset.
Our projects range in value from individual domestic projects to developments with an overall contract value of in excess of £40 million. This has facilitated a broad experience base, enabling us to build valuable relationships with the Local and National Authorities over the years, and a knowledge of their expectations at each stage of design.
We own the latest industry recognised 3D modelling software enabling finite design in conjunction with the appropriate Professional Indemnity Insurance, providing confidence and assurance when engaging our Professional Services.
John is the founding Director of JRC Consulting Engineers Ltd, having gained 18 years’ experience both on site as a setting out Engineer and later within the warmth of the design office. He has a degree in Civil Engineering and is a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers. John established JRC Consulting Engineers Ltd in 2016 with the desire to establish a reputable firm which operated with an ethical and supportive approach delivering bespoke and pragmatic infrastructure solutions.
John is a ‘hands on’ Director and Engineer, whilst managing the day to day running of the firm, he is also proficient in the use of the finite 3D highways and drainage modelling software we carry and therefore still heavily involved at the ‘coal face’ of the design within the office. In his spare time John is a family man enjoying water sports and just being in the outdoors.
Tim became a Director of JRC Consulting Engineers in 2017 having established a strong working relationship with the company through providing design and drafting sub consultancy services through his own company. During his 21 years’ experience in civil engineering he has gained a breadth of knowledge in both Structural Engineering before transitioning into Infrastructure in more recent years. He is a Member of both the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Institution of Structural Engineers. Having started his career as an apprentice Tim is an approachable Director and Engineer, and enjoys passing on his experience to the more junior members of the team.
He oversees the drawing output for the office, ensuring that our “product” continuously maintains high standards. When not working Tim enjoys time with his growing family, socialising, whilst attempting to keep fit having now hung his boots up after 25 years of playing competitive football. If anyone requires any home gym equipment please feel free to contact him, as he has plenty barely used pieces currently stored in his garage!
Chris has recently joined JRC Consulting to lead and help develop the JRC structural engineering team. Having worked in the construction industry for over 19 years for local civil and structural engineering practices and multi-disciplinary international practices, Chris brings a wealth of technical and leadership experience. Chris has successfully led the delivery of a wide project portfolio across a broad range of values and sectors including residential, education, commercial, health, marine and conservation working initially for a Contractor and subsequently as a Consultant. Chris’ experience and collaborative approach to structural design helps to realise the Clients and Architects aspirations and vision through sensitive integration of the structure. In doing so, Chris prides himself on delivering practical, cost-effective engineering solutions and adding value to every project. Chris has been Chartered member of the Institution of Structural Engineers since 2012.

When not working Chris enjoys spending time with his young family and whenever possible grabbing time for a surf, a paddle or a peddle….
Jack has several over 6 years post-graduate experience in structural engineering, working in small consultancies within the local area.
He is experienced in all main construction materials as well as holding knowledge of less common materials, such as glass and cob. He has also worked extensively with green oak and written numerous reports to support planning applications.
Career highlights include rock fall analysis of cliff side footbridge in Northern Ireland, extensive renovations to a listed property in Topsham, and the conversion of an industrial building to a private members club in Notting Hill.
Jack’s role is to help with the development of structural engineering services provided by JRC Consulting Engineers.
When he’s not at work, Jack undertakes the continual DIY and renovation of his 1930s ex local authority house. He also enjoys getting away in his self-built campervan as much as possible – this year off to Europe!
Experienced Infrastructure Engineer (7+ years) with a demonstrated history of working in the civil and structural engineering industry.
Key experience in flood risk assessments, infrastructure feasibility studies, water company and highway authority sectional agreements (S104, S106, S185, S38 & S278), design calculations and other project documentation including BREEAM reports.
Batchelor Degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering – First Class, with Honours
Kyle enjoys Music weekends at Butlins, Travel, Shooting, Horse Racing (watching it) – basically anything sociable or a bit different. Kyle is also in the process of renovating his 1960’s house. The property required a complete overhaul including dry-lining and insulating the walls, rewiring the electrics and installing central heating. All using Youtube tutorials, DIY books and, much patience!
Robbie has over 5 years’ experience working in one of the country’s leading housing developers based in the civil engineering department. Robbie’s focus was delivering detailed design for a variety of developments differing in scale.
Experience in external works, plot drainage and adoptable road design for a variety of local authorities, sectional agreements, and legal conveyance plans for, but not limited to residential developments. Producing high quality detailed drawings for planning, tender and build purposes. He is also experienced in assisting with project management from inception through to completion.
Robbie’s key role with JRC is preparing appropriate packages of information for planning, tender and construction purposes, and producing and managing sectional agreement packages for submission to relevant authorities. He will also be guiding and mentoring more junior members of the team.
When not in work, Robbie enjoys socialising with friends and when the weather is good, he can be found in the sea surfing most evenings – although not if it is freezing cold! If it is too icy, Robbie likes to keep active in the gym.
Robbie is a Marvel film fan, with a particular preference for The Avengers.
After finishing his foundation science degree in Falmouth, Luke started his career in architecture by working on private residential projects in burgeoning practise near Bristol. Following on from this, Luke went on to undertake contractual work primarily in residential planning applications and medical fitouts, before finding steady employment in a large architectural firm in Hampshire, fulfilling the role of an architectural technician on a multitude of retail projects. Feeling the call of the motherland, Luke was able to find his way back to the South West thanks to the guiding light of JRC in late 2019.
Lukes role at JRC is currently assisting the associate structural engineer in the production of structural drawing packages and (in time) will be the leading authority on all things Revit Structures, tutoring newer members of the team.
His hobbies include: Trying new things (most recently, blacksmithing and GoApe), eating – and sometimes cooking- great food, and generally looking at derelict buildings and imagining ways to renovate.
Harry is an Apprentice Civil Engineering Technician who joined the team in 2017. Seeing his Father working in the industry, Harry has shown an interest in engineering and would like to follow in his footsteps. In his spare time Harry likes to keep fit, he regularly plays football and cricket competitively, and is also a keen cyclist. When not keeping fit Harry enjoys socialising with his family and friends.
From a young age Andrew had always been a keen worker, spending his Saturdays and school holidays in Customer Service. On leaving school, Andrew took another customer facing role in his local pub, gaining important people skills in the process. It wasn’t long before Andrew’s passion for DIY and woodturning, lead him to seek out a career that was more creative, which lead him to JRC Consulting Engineers.
As an Apprentice Engineer, Andrew has developed quickly, and is now a valuable part of the team drafting drawings for the Senior Engineer.
A firm football fan, who supports Liverpool, 2019 is proving to be a good year for him and his team!
Andrew is very family orientated and enjoys spending time socialising with his relatives, particularly if it includes food – just don’t give him any mushrooms.
Ethan started working for JRC in August 2019 after interviewing for the position of Apprentice. Having spent years assisting his dad as a labourer on site, Ethan decided he had more interest in what goes on behind the scenes, and wanted to pursue a career in Civil Engineering. Ethan is really enjoying the collaborative team working and learning how to design using CAD.
Spending time with family, friends and far too much money on food is how Ethan relaxes. He’s also a rugby enthusiast and plays for his local Okehampton RFC.
Having recently finished his A-Levels at Exeter College, Olly started working with JRC as an apprentice in August 2019. Olly previously developed his customer service skills with various hospitality roles, but soon realised a more practical and creative career was the path he wanted to follow. Olly enjoys the problem solving and responsibility of his role at JRC and hopes to go down the University path to further develop his knowledge and skills in the industry, with the eventual aim of becoming a Chartered Civil Engineer.
With a keen interest in E-commerce, Olly has become a pro at listing and selling clothes for profit, which is a fantastic outlet for his creativity in his spare time.
Having started her career in administration for a large estate agency, Natalie proved a natural at improving efficiency in office systems and procedures, as well as organising teams. Natalie quickly progressed to senior PA roles within Higher Education, Property and Social Housing, where she learned a variety of skills that helped her to secure the Regional Events Coordinator role for ICE South West. Here she honed her event organisation talents and discovered her love of working within the built environment industry, leading to taking the Office Manager position with JRC.
Having joined the team in March 2019, Natalie soon had the office working efficiently with improved and streamlined administrative processes, enabling the team to concentrate on the project work. Natalie is responsible for all manner of office-based tasks, including marketing, HR and finance.
Outside of work, if it’s sunny, Natalie will be found paddleboarding along the beautiful Devon coast, finishing up with a drink in the local. When the weather takes a turn, it’s cooking, reading and playing Catan with a nice glass of red that keeps her entertained.
