JRC Consulting Engineers have the in house capability to carry out both fully compliant highway design packages for proposed adopted highways via a formal S38 agreement or alterations to existing adopted highways via a S278 agreement, as well as private road and access designs to meet the various industry regulations. Our highways designs incorporate full and detailed general arrangements, horizontal and vertical alignments, cross sections, highway drainage design as well as road markings & traffic signs plans.

Highway construction details are prepared in accordance with the local Highway Authority’s Specification or DMRB with due regard to site specific ground conditions, planning constraints and architectural layouts provided to us.

We also utilise the latest vehicle swept path analysis software to inform and test development layouts with the site relevant vehicle types, checking both horizontal and vertical constraints.

Other highways design services available include the following:

  • Roundabout and junction design
  • Single and dual carriageway design
  • Horizontal and vertical forward visibility checks
  • Modelling varying width and freeform carriageways

SuDS are at the forefront of drainage design and our design ethos. Whether for a greenfield development or brownfield re-development, the implementation of the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 (Schedule 3 FWMA) enforces the role of SuDS as part of future development and mitigating flood risk. JRC Consulting Engineers have a wealth of experience in the design and procurement of the adoption of both foul and storm drainage solutions, from planning through to detailed design and construction.

Early involvement of JRC Consulting in the design process is key to ensuring that the application of appropriate and effective solutions are economically integrated into the project from the outset as well as on and off site flood mitigation. The Flood Water Management Act references the SuDS Approving Body (SAB) to be set up but this is still in development and therefore as a result the Lead Local Flood Authorities were set up in 2015 under the direction of the Planning Authority. The LLFA is now responsible for the approval of all new drainage systems and will dictate and have a greater jurisdiction of discharge rates irrespective of Water Authority permissions.

JRC Consulting carry a great deal of experience in dealing with foul treatment facilities and gaining the appropriate approvals from the Environment Agency. This includes dealing with sewerage treatment for domestic and commercial developments as well as luxury facilities such as swimming pools, which require careful consideration in terms of pollution control.  We carry the latest 3D design software which permits full simulation and auditing of our designs.
